Jayendra (Jay) Singh is a retired Biotech chemist. An immigrant from Fiji Islands, he settled in Hayward in 1985. After 35 years of working in various sectors, Jay is now committed to dedicating his time in promoting adult learning by tutoring in Hayward Literacy Plus programs under guidance of the Hayward Public Library. Jay joined the HAC Board in 2021 to promote Art and Culture to local residents.

Married for 45 years to his wife Rohini, he also has a son, a daughter, and a son-in-law with two fabulous grandchildren. Jay was educated in India earning a degree in Biology then returned to Fiji in 1975 where he was a refinery chemist until he migrated to California joining his parents, both educators with his father teaching at James Madison Middle school in Oakland.

Jay has worked for renowned corporations such as Genentech, Becton Dickinson Biosciences, Bio-Rad, and Toyota. An avid traveler, Jay has visited several countries in Asia, East and West Europe, Latin America, Japan, the Caribbean and Pacific Islands as well as many parts of North America, experiencing many cultures by living with local families during his travels, developing a deep appreciation for art and culture and wishes to share the joys of it with his hometown.
