Winifred Thompson (Winnie) and her husband Gerry enjoy painting in their studio. They are members of the Hayward Arts Council, Sun Gallery, and A.R.T., Inc. She is the president of the Diablo/Alameda County branch of the National League of American Pen Women and is a member of the Literacy Plus Council at the Hayward Library. She holds a Master of Science Degree in Education from Cal State University East Bay, Hayward.

Winnie is the author of Fast Forward to Phonics - Everything You Ever Wanted to Learn But Didn't and My Name is America, a collection of life stories which she used while teaching GED students at the Hayward Adult School.
