Al has been a member of HAC since 2004 and a member of the Board since 2007. Before his retirement, he was a psychiatric social worker at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Palo Alto. He has been a practicing artist for many years, mainly using watercolor, pen and ink, or pencil. He is the curator at the Hayward Senior Center and assists in hanging art exhibits at local galleries when needed. He and his wife sing in a CSUEB choir and other community choruses. He volunteers with his church, helping to serve low income families and individuals, and is active in the Sierra Club, the Fairview Community Club, and the Castro Valley Democratic Club.
