Lani Llamido, Board Member

Lani Llamido was born in the Philippines and is the first generation in her family to finish college. A community leader and organizer, she has a strong drive for justice and equality.

She is an advocate for literacy and education for all and an active Board Member of Hayward Literacy Plus Council, serving as Board Secretary.

Her passion for cultural and ethnic preservation inspired her to organize the Filipino American Student Coalition and also to accept the supervision of the Asian Pacific Islander Club. Both organizations are based in Hayward. Her goal is to help the young generation embrace their roots and learn more about their cultural heritage; from their folk songs, to dialects, food, ethnic dances, values and traits; something she felt was missing in the community for Asian kids.

As a licensed Human Rights Consultant, she helps the underserved immigrant community to navigate the complicated justice system, particularly in Immigration process and Special Education Services Currently, Lani served as a liaison between Hayward Art Council and the Palawan Heritage Center Museum in the Philippines that gave rise to an International Virtual Exhibit that showcased the artworks of a young Indigenous artist, Leonard Ansiong.

If you can’t find her volunteering in food banks or in local community outreach, you can see her in local museums and parks, mesmerized by the awesomeness she is witnessing or admiring the sunset by the bay.
