OFF THE GRID

In the summer of 2012, popular vendor Off the Grid began holding a mobile food market in Hayward. The market began at the Five Flags Park at the southeast corner of Mission Boulevard and D Street, but later moved to the area in front of City Hall. Though this location is a little less visible, it proved to be more convenient for both cars and heavy pedestrian traffic.

Off the Grid sent out eight trucks from 5 to 9 PM Mondays in the summer and 5 to 8 PM in the winter. Live music was provided from 6 to 8 PM. The alcohol-free venue rotated the trucks at the market. Only chef-driven small vendors, were invited to participate. Most items were $6to $8, with some appetizers in the $3-to-$5 range.

Off the Grid was only a going concern in Hayward for a brief time, but it was fun while it lasted.
